I mean, I ain't even mad. That sounds like a great beer. The person in question called me that because I obviously comment on here all the time. It got me thinking - yes those of us who post here in Oppositelock are known as "Oppos" but do we have a title for outside of jalopnik? Are we just "Jalopniks"? Cause I'm kinda digging "pistonhead". Now if you'll excuse me, I have some beer shopping to do.

A full review of this brand of beer will be posted if I can find it.

I'm pretty sure Pistonhead has been in the vernacular for a long time, along with gearhead and petrolhead.

Opponauts and Jalops as far as I know, but they won't be widespread monikers.

Also, no word of a lie, I had those beers at a gig I was at on Sunday. They're really rather nice actually.

Band was good too. YoungBlood Brass Band. Worth a listen if you're up for something new.

Don't bother finding that beer, it's a rather generic pilsner. Not bad, but not anything special either. It's a cool thing to have since it's got a cool design, but that's about it.

But yeah, I AM a pistonhead, and I take that as a compliment :)

See I've heard the other two quite a bit, but I've never heard pistonhead until today. Grease monkey, gearhead, tuner, hot rodder, wrencher, petrolhead, speedfreak, and a handful of others I'm familiar with. Oh and "woodward punk" since I grew up near woodward and yes street racing does happen there still.

But never heard pistonhead. Now I feel young.

Hmmmmm, I'll have to snag a few bottles so I can use the beer labels on my jetta. It being generic is kind of a shame but I'll drink through it.

It's probably a regional thing.

Me complaining about it being generic would be something specific for northern europe though.. It sure beats the HELL out of anything mainstream from the US. So it all depends on where you live :) But I'd say it's pretty similar to Carling, Carlsberg and that kinda shit...

It's also not very inclusive (I got called this on jezebel, of course). I mean, what about the rotary fans? Or electric fans? Or turbine fanatics?

Well, the same argument could be made for "petrolhead" (Diesels, EVs) and "gearhead" (CVT enthusiasts???)

Gearhead is also not inclusive to voltheads. Most electric motors don't go through a traditional gearbox.

Hmmm.....this is actually more difficult than I thought since cars are powered by any number of ways these days. I guess we'd just have to go by "hoons" since that implies we just drive everything like we stole it.

Ya did what in yer cup?

Here we're opponauts or jalops. To those outside our great community we're gearheads, petrolheads, pistonheads, and just plain crazy.

I'm now looking for a riviera beer. My boss surely appreciates you distracting me with such thoughts.

"Wheeligans"

Applies to both genders, doesn't specify power, and applies to all known forms of ground transport.

Tracks have wheels too! The bits on the bottom are called road wheels.
